Campaign supporter scheme to increase charitable legacies

Published on

Remember A Charity have today launched a new campaign supporter scheme to increase the incidence of charitable legacies in Wills. The campaign supporter scheme is free to join, and offers a series of benefits for professional advisors in exchange for their support of Remember A Charity. The scheme, aimed solely at Wills and probate solicitors and other qualified will-writing practitioners,  seeks to raise the frequency of charitable gifts in wills by 4% to raise an extra £1 billion for charity each year. Gifts in wills form the foundation of charities in the UK, with many depending on them to survive. Yet while 74% of the UK supports charities, only 7% currently leaves a charitable legacy. Research has shown that 35% of people would happily leave a charitable gift in their Will once they have looked after their family and friends, and professional advisors who mention the option of a charitable gift to their clients write more Wills containing a charitable bequest. However, only 25% of advisers always mention the option of a charitable gift. The scheme encourages professional advisers to ask all their clients to consider leaving a gift to charity in their Will, as many people simply aren’t aware of this form of giving. Naomi Pinder, a Remember A Charity campaign supporter from Quality Solicitors Jackson & Canter Liverpool said: “Sometimes clients have already thought about making charitable legacies, but often they simply haven’t considered the possibility of including charitable gifts. I raise the question thereby opening a conversation and discussion. I think that clients often feel a great sense of peace and well being knowing that their legacy benefits those less fortunate”. All companies, partnerships and sole practitioners signing up to the scheme will have their details displayed on the Remember A Charity website. They will also be given a certificate to show their support for the campaign, and access to other supporting materials including the Remember A Charity Campaign Supporter logo and Practitioner’s Guide.
