Charities set to benefit from inheritance tax cut

An estimated 5,000 people a year are expected to increase their charitable donations to take advantage of the inheritance tax reduction announced in this year's Budget. The Budget included a reduction in the rate of inheritance tax from 40 per cent to 36 per cent for estates leaving 10 per cent or more to charity, from 6 April 2012. The average increase in the sum left to charity is expected to be about £60,000, a figure inflated by a small number of large estates.
