Brooke Action for Working Horses and Donkeys

One hundred million working horses, donkeys and mules are the lifeline for around 600 million people living in some of the world’s poorest communities. They provide invaluable support to daily life and are the backbone of communities.

Without healthy working animals they wouldn’t be able to put food on their tables, send their children to school or build better futures for themselves and their families.

At Brooke our vision is of a world in which working horses, donkeys and mules are free from suffering and have a life worth living. And our goal is to achieve immediate and lasting change to the lives of these hard working animals and the communities that depend on them. We work hard with owners, communities and policy makers to bring about significant and lasting change to the lives of these vulnerable working animals, even in some of the world’s most challenging areas.

Over half of Brooke’s work is made possible thanks to generous supporters who have included a gift in their Will to Brooke – and last year that enabled us to help over 1.5 million working horses, donkeys and mules in nearly 12,000 communities across Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.

“It’s so easy to think that leaving a legacy will only be helping a few animals, but generations of animals are benefiting. It’s the way the work is done and through the ripple effect – all the different educational, community and veterinary work that is carried out.” Julie has included a gift to Brooke in her Will because she wants the next generation of working animals to benefit from Brooke’s work.
