The Florence Nightingale Foundation exists to support and develop nurses and midwives to improve care and save lives across the world.
We all know someone who has been cared for by a nurse or midwife at the most important moments - and caring for patients means caring for nurses and midwives.
“The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the nursing and midwifery workforce has been unprecedented and will be felt for a long time to come. The crisis has also laid bare and exacerbated longstanding problems faced by nurses and midwives, including inequalities, inadequate working conditions and chronic excessive work pressures. The health and wellbeing of nurses and midwives are essential to the quality of care they can provide for people and communities.” The King’s Fund Courage of Compassion Report, 2020.
We do this by offering nurses and midwives exceptional leadership development programmes and, since 2020, through our unique support service Nightingale Frontline®.
“I feel so passionately about the Florence Nightingale Foundation because of the drive and that passion that it reinstilled in me to carry on when I was at a point where I could have quite easily just given up.” Josh Hammond, Urgent Community Response Team Lead Southampton.
Florence left one of the world’s greatest legacies – she was the founder of modern nursing, but also a statistician and a social reformer.
