The Hugs Foundation is an equine rescue centre based in Bodmin, Cornwall. Our mission is to provide a safe, nurturing and enriching environment for our animal rescues, enabling us to rehabilitate and rehome as many as possible and to provide well-being support to those in need.

We do this by:

  • rescuing abandoned, unwanted, sick and mistreated equines
  • rehabilitating our rescues using ethical and empathic training techniques to create positive experiences
  • find the right forever home for our rescues
  • running well-being programmes for children, young people, military personnel and veterans and the elderly through a unique intervention that creates a circular relationship between the environment, animals and people we support

Our ‘Hugs community’ is inclusive, safe, caring, nurturing and kind. We support a huge range of complex needs including; social, emotional, physical and mental ill health, trauma and abuse, reduced or non-school attendance, SEND, social isolation/loneliness, bereavement, self-harm and suicide ideation. We teach life skills, coping strategies and resilience for lifelong impact through therapeutic outdoor learning and animal assisted services.

With overwhelming pressure on mental health services and many traditional talk therapies being ineffective, inappropriate or inaccessible, our charity is filling a vital gap to support those in need.

Let your memory live on through Hugs. Your gift, your legacy, your difference will make a huge life-changing impact, enabling us to continue our vital work rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming horses and ponies and improving the lives of children, young people, military veterans and the elderly for years to come.
