Helping to change children’s lives for the better, even when I’m not around

When my own children were young (a few years ago now!), I wanted to help children in other parts of the world have the same opportunities as my own. I wanted all children to have the security, the love, the care and the education that would allow them to fulfil their potential. I wanted to help fight for their rights.

 That’s when I started to support Save the Children regularly. I’ve also left a gift in my Will to Save the Children so they can continue to change children’s lives for the better, even when I’m not around.

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to visit Save the Children’s programmes in India. Throughout the visit, I was hugely impressed by the quality of their work and the focus they place on long-term, sustainable solutions.

In the Delhi slums, we visited a school to see the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programme. Save the Children redesigned the toilet block and hand-washing facilities at the school to make them child friendly with lower hand basins. They also worked with teachers to build hand-washing lessons into the daily routine. The children have taken these lessons back to their families, and the whole community is benefiting. These are not glamorous projects, but they work! During my trip, it was clear to me that Save the Children is making a real difference to the life chances of some very deprived and vulnerable children.

Gifts given in Wills make these kinds of programmes possible, both in India and throughout the world, and help change children’s lives every day.
