Investing in the next generation

UK Youth offers young people a vital chance to learn and succeed outside mainstream education. Since 1911 we have supported young people through a range of innovative programmes to gain the tools they need for life, work and a better future.

Despite being a national charity and 103 years old, we are largely unknown to the general public. Leaving a legacy to UK Youth means investing in the next generation. Legacies enable us to plan and develop our life-changing programmes for young people now and in the future.

It is crucially important to raise awareness of the difference leaving a legacy to UK Youth can make. That is why being a member of Remember A Charity is a great opportunity for us.

For this year's Remember A Charity in your Will Week, I organised a film screening of the Living Legends documentary in our London office, and that weekend a young person from our youth steering group, Youth Voice, made a speech to her peers about the importance of legacy giving. The popcorn and chocolates definitely helped to gain their interest and they were inspired to spread the word around the country.

The team liked the Living Legends theme as they can really appreciate the extreme efforts our supporters go to in raising money for UK Youth, like jumping out of planes and cycling 520 km from London to Paris!

There does, however, still exist a barrier to overcome with the idea of legacy giving, due to the fact that most people believe only the very wealthy have the option to do so. Remember A Charity’s creative ideas and materials help us to dispel these beliefs, in the hope of encouraging more people to consider leaving a gift in their Will.
