My gift to The Wildlife Trusts
Moira Robinson tells us what inspired her to leave a gift in her Will to The Wildlife Trusts, having supported the charity for a number of years. Why did you first start supporting the charity? When my husband and I had our two sons, now in their 30s, we were living in an area within walking distance of Attenborough Nature Reserve. This became a regular place to visit. We enjoyed walks along the river banks trying to spot and identify the different birds and plants and meeting up with other mums and their children. We really had that ‘feel good factor’ of being outdoors for a few hours. Why are you so passionate about the work of The Wildlife Trusts? In those early days there was no large, convenient car park, no visitors’ centre, no café, no toilet! No matter! The old Wildlife Trust caravan was a small mine of information, staffed by enthusiastic volunteers handing out leaflets, advice and keen to share their knowledge of the reserve. When I retired from teaching it happened to coincide with the opening the new Visitors’ Centre on the reserve so I volunteered with the education team, helping with various activities designed for visiting school children. Eleven years later, I’m still enjoying it. What inspired you to leave a gift in your Will? My husband and I have supported a number of charities over the years, both financially and also in practical terms, and when it came to re-writing our Wills a few years ago we decided we would leave gifts to our favourite charities.
I have chosen to leave a gift to The Wildlife Trusts, in particular to Attenborough, as a thank you for all the pleasures it has given me and my family over the years. For the never tiring support the staff offer to visitors.
How do you think your gift will make a difference in the future? I like knowing that any gift left to the Trust will help them to continue with the wonderful work of passing on knowledge and enthusiasm to the next generation. What would you say to someone who is considering leaving a gift in their Will? I would encourage anyone to think about leaving a gift in their Will to a charity they feel passionate about, to help support the fantastic work they all do. It really does make a big difference.
